While completing a combined degree in Law and Media, Emma was drawn to the NSW Government Graduate program as an opportunity for her to apply both parts of her studies into her work.
“I believe that spending 18 months across three Government Departments and working on complex policy matters gives NSW Government Graduates a professional advantage not attainable from other programs,” says Emma.”
“You have the privilege of observing and working alongside colleagues who are specialists in their fields.”
Emma has had three placements on the Program: the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Department of Planning and Environment, and the Department of Justice.
“Each rotation has been very different. I’ve been involved in the new State Environmental Planning Policy for Coastal Management, the Murray Darling Basin Plan and the Broken Hill water pipeline project. Now, I am working within the project team responsible for delivering the Premier’s Priority for Reducing Domestic Violence Reoffending. Each placement has been challenging and rewarding in its own way,” she says.
During her time in the program, Emma has been sure to say ‘yes’ to every opportunity.
“You quickly realise it’s not as terrifying as you first think.”
In her free time Emma enjoys gardening, cross stitching and is also learning Croatian.
