Executive Director, Office of the Secretary
Ministry of Health
NSW Health provides world class, integrated healthcare services designed to promote and improve the health and well-being of the people of NSW. It is the largest healthcare system in Australia, employing over 100,000 staff with a budget of nearly $22 billion. Its success has been built upon the dedication and talent of its staff at all levels and a commitment to advancing clinical practices and outcomes by harnessing leading research and innovation.
This is a critical role, responsible for identifying and managing sensitive, critical and complex policy issues on behalf of the Secretary and providing high level advice and secretariat support for all relevant stakeholders and committees. The person will oversee major policy and project initiatives sponsored by the Secretary and which require a whole of Health/whole of Government approach to deliver the required outcomes. The Executive Director will provide expert advice to the Secretary and the senior executive team on current and emerging issues, prioritising those which are urgent and guiding their management and policy development directions.
Stakeholder engagement is central to this role and the Executive Director will work closely with the Secretary, senior executive team, Minister’s Office, and central agencies. You will demonstrate a proven ability to forge strong and influential relationships at all levels across the various stakeholder communities.
To succeed in this role, you will have worked at an executive level within a large, complex public sector organisation, and will possess high level policy development experience which will have entailed interfacing at a Ministerial/Cabinet level; exceptional communication abilities; and the judgement required to manage complex, high profile and sensitive issues as they arise. You will be an inclusive leader, able to influence and manage across a complex matrix of relationships. Experience of the health sector, while useful, is not a requirement.
The Ministry of Health values diversity and is committed to building an inclusive workplace culture that reflects the community we serve. We encourage applications from diverse community groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with a disability.
This represents an excellent opportunity to positively impact the success of NSW Health, its staff and the communities they serve.
