“Working with the community is challenging, inspiring and highly motivating.”

“It gives me a great deal of job satisfaction when one of my students completes their training and attains qualifications to assist them to chase their goals and life ambitions,” says Darrell, Aboriginal Training Coordinator for NSW Department of Industry.

In his role, Darrell monitors Aboriginal apprenticeship and traineeship placements and provides mediation and conflict resolution for Aboriginal learners who are completing their training.

“I work very closely with the Aboriginal community and provide assistance through various programs from NSW Department of Industry to increase the number of employment and training opportunities,” Darrell says.

Over the years, the NSW Government has set up a variety of programs for the Aboriginal community, including the New Careers for Aboriginal People (NCAP) program - a free program to assist Aboriginal people gain employment and training, career enhancement, and training and advisory support services - and the Aboriginal Enterprise Development Officer (AEDO) Program - a free program for Aboriginal people considering starting up their own business or expanding their current business.

Darrell says the best part of his job is working so closely with the Aboriginal community and being able to help improve their employment opportunities.

“Working with the community is one of the things I enjoy every single day of my job. Over the years, I wouldn’t have a clue about the number of employment and training opportunities that have been created as a result of my contribution, but whatever the number might be, this is something I’m very proud of,” he enthuses.
