Leigh

“I love being out in nature.”

“Even when I was young, I really enjoyed the outdoor life,” says Leigh, Fire Management Officer for the NSW Government’s Department of Planning and Environment.

In her role, Leigh is responsible for facilitating hazard reduction programs and ensuring over 80 firefighters across NSW have the right training to undertake their role confidently, safely and professionally.

Leigh works with colleagues across NSW and spends a fair bit of time seeing the NSW countryside, which suits her perfectly.

“I really enjoy working with my colleagues to take detailed care in coordinating fire management across the various NSW national parks’ landscapes.

“And, in my free time, I also love to go out bushwalking of course,” she says with a smile.

Leigh adds that the environment, ecological values and approaches to fire management within NSW have increasingly changed over the years. Being able to apply up-to-date knowledge and procedures to her work is therefore crucial in Leigh’s role to help safeguard our environment.

“I have the opportunity to learn about the latest ideas, strategies and procedures to fire management and implement them on the ground,” she says.
