“One thing I didn’t expect when I joined the Public Service, was the depth of knowledge my colleagues have here. Especially in Transport for NSW, everyone is so passionate about their work because their work is their passion.”

“I served in the Royal Australian Navy, on submarines for fifteen years, I loved it but there came a point when it was time for me to reprioritise, be at home and have a family.”

“Initially when I left the navy, I became a commercial lawyer but it was a bit boring. I didn’t get real satisfaction from my job.”

“I joined the NSW Public Sector four years ago and I’ve had a range of roles and responsibilities since then. There are quite a lot of crossovers between the skills required in the navy and the public sector: decision making, leadership and good people skills are absolutely essential in the navy and the public sector.”

“I’m currently on secondment from Transport to the Minister of Roads, Maritime and Freight’s Office and my role as Senior Departmental Liaison Officer means that I work with lots of different stakeholder groups: from local community groups and sports clubs, to big businesses.”

“Part of what I do is react to the issues of the day and also thinking deeply about complex, long-term issues affecting roads and maritime. I am also a link between the minister and the agency, I help to bring everyone together.”

“Water is enshrined in our identity in NSW, it’s crucial to our economy and culture. So something that I’m really proud about is that we’ve reformed a lot of maritime laws in NSW to help simplify bureaucratic process and made people’s lives easier as a result.”

“One thing I didn’t expect when I joined the Public Service, was the depth of knowledge my colleagues have here. Especially in Transport for NSW, everyone is so passionate about their work because their work is their passion.”

“I’ve really found this. I’m lucky that I’m in an office where you can see water and at the weekend I love going out on the boat along the Hawkesbury River with my wife and girls.”
