Fixed Term 1.0FTE Director, Staff Specialist

Department of Intensive Care Services

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within Intensive Care Services.

 

The position will be for an initial period of 2 years.

 

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.


 

Selection Criteria

 

 

 

  • Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

  • Extensive clinical knowledge in the core scope of practice in Intensive Care Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability in strategic clinical planning; clinical operations to provide patient focused, high quality, evidence-based and cost effective clinical services; human resource functions (including performance management of medical practitioners) change management and team building; and budgetary management.

  • Experience in managing and leading a multidisciplinary team in a large and complex environment with demonstrated ability to implement and improve patient safety, patient flow, and collaboration between medical disciplines.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinical service innovation and knowledge and understanding of accreditation, incident monitoring, complaints and workplace health and safety standards.

  • Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership, including excellent communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to negotiation and clinical team building.

  • Demonstrated expertise with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the department.
