Paramedics who meet all the criteria and conditions as detailed below, are invited to submit an expression of interest to undertake the selection process for Rescue training opportunities.
 
This advertisement is intended for current NSW Ambulance employees only.  Employees subject to an ECP / ICP consolidation period are ineligible to apply for this position.  Casual NSW Ambulance employees are ineligible to apply for this position.
 
Prerequisites
  • Applicants must be permanently appointed to one of the following stations within by the closing date for applications and at the commencement of training course:
    • Cowra; Tamworth City / Tamworth South; Rutherford; Singleton; Wagga Wagga; Bomaderry; and Culburra, Huskisson, Kangaroo Valley (to work the Bomaderry Rescue roster).
  • Any move as a result of this EOI will not be covered by the Transferred Employees Benefits.
  • Applicants must be a paramedic with a current Certificate to Practice at a minimum clinical level of P1. Applicants must have completed a minimum 12 months’ work experience at the P1 level or higher by the closing date for applications and not undergoing a supported RPL Paramedic qualification.  Applicants must have completed a minimum of three years on-road practice as a paramedic (trainee/intern/qualified) prior to the closing date for applications.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a satisfactory Conduct and Service Check which includes references from your current direct and next-line managers, a review of sick leave, AMQ status regarding course timelines for current participants, ability to undertake full duties of the position, National Criminal Records Check, and clearances from the Professional Standards Unit, Ambulance Education Centre, Risk & Safety and Infection Control.
  • Applicants who have completed a training course for Intensive Care Paramedic, Extended Care Paramedic, Critical Care, Control Centre, or other specialty courses and are currently within a 24 month return of service obligation period will need to have completed this before the commencement date of the second scheduled Rescue course (1 October 2018).
 
Employment Conditions
  • Appointed under the terms and conditions of the Operational Ambulance Officers (State) Award.
  • Successful applicants will be required to undertake duties at other centres, perform on-call duties, be deployed intrastate, interstate or internationally should the need arise.
  • Hold and maintain an Australian Medium Rigid (MR) Driver’s Licence a minimum of two weeks prior to commencing their allocated SOT training course.
  • Hold and maintain a current Australian Passport with not less than six months validity a minimum of two weeks prior to commencement of their allocated SOT training course.
  • Be prepared to undertake & maintain additional vaccinations periodically to ensure physical/medical suitability for potential overseas deployments.
  • Be prepared to attend a minimum of six Rescue training days every year in order to meet the ongoing requirements of Rescue Paramedic Certification. 
  • All Rescue Paramedics are required to successfully complete recertification as determined by the Award together with successful completion of all required Rescue training days, required Rescue roster cycles, skills, knowledge, competencies, ongoing medical, physical fitness and psychological screening tests (as required).
  • In addition to the Rescue education requirements the successful applicant will be required to maintain a current clinical certificate to practice and participate in the NSW Ambulance Performance Development Program.
  • No accommodation payments or conditions are applicable to the position and no accommodation provision under the Award applies.
  • If a vehicle is provided as part of the requirements of the duties of the position, no private use of the vehicle is available.

    • Mechanical reasoning & aptitude
    • Physical fitness
    • Panel Interview
    • Conduct & Services Check (including PSU, WH&S, AEC,  P&C, Infection Control  & AMQ commitments)
    • Referee checks (direct supervisor & next-line manager)
    • National Criminal Record check

  • Applications are considered an expression of interest and applicants are agreeing to report at the locations nominated by NSW Ambulance for the training period, including:
    • Ambulance Education Facilities located at State Headquarters, Rozelle and throughout the metropolitan area.
    • Other Rescue training locations as determined by the course program and authorised by the Manager, Special Operations – these may include metropolitan and regional locations, for example bush, beach, cliffs, industrial sites, etc.
  • Applicants are required to report prior to the commencement training days/shifts and there is no travel time, living away from home allowance entitlement or NSW Ambulance vehicle offered for travel.
  • An eligibility list may be created if additional Rescue courses arise within the 12 month period.
