Visiting Medical Officer in Psychiatry

Hunter New England Mental Health are seeking a dynamic psychiatrist who wishes to pursue a career in a rural environment. The consultant Psychiatrist will be required to provide expert psychiatric care to the community of the Tablelands consisting of an 8 bed voluntary inpatient unit in Armidale (The Clarke Centre) as well as community clinics in Inverell, Glen Inness, Moree and Tenterfield.

The Visiting Medical Officer will usually work alongside another psychiatrist at Armidale in an integrated service for a 3 day per week role (preferably consecutive).

Applicants must have a medical degree registerable with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

1. Evidence of being a MEDICAL EXPERT, with a medical degree registrable in Australia and FRANZCP
2. Evidence of being a good COMMUNICATOR, including both oral and written skills and a high level approach to communicating with staff including generating agreement, collaboration and dealing with conflict
3. Evidence of being a COLLABOATOR, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings
4. Evidence of being a good MANAGER, including high level skills and knowledge in all the aspects of management of medical staff and governance of health services
5. Being an ADVOCATE for good health care, by being able to demonstrate fairness and transparency in dealing with medical staff matters and preparedness to demonstrate and promote the values of the service
6. Evidence of being a SCHOLAR, including evidence of continued professional development or higher study inthe health management or management field
7. Evidence of being a PROFESSIONAL, including an understanding of bioethics and the role of the Psychiatrist in public mental health, the need for peer review and other forms of clinical governance, a professional attitude towards patients, staff and family, and ability to be flexible in work role
8. Able to drive a standard motor vehicle and/or able to obtain a driver’s license to drive in NSW.
