"I am motivated to make a real difference to the lives of veterans in NSW."

Caroline Mackaness is the Director of the Office for Veteran Affairs in the Department of Justice where she provides strategic advice and support to the NSW Minister for Veteran Affairs, the Honourable David Elliott MP, and the Premier.

Caroline’s portfolio of responsibilities includes delivering the NSW Centenary of Anzac  program, the State War Memorial grants program, the Premier’s Anzac  Memorial Scholarship program, the Veterans Employment Program and an annual calendar of events while also completing the original architectural vision for the Anzac Memorial through its current extension and refurbishment.

“I am motivated to make a real difference to the lives of veterans in NSW, particularly through the Veterans Employment Program. The program works to ensure the extensive training and experience of our contemporary veterans is recognised and utilised for the benefit of NSW. The initiative is now being picked up by other states, the Commonwealth and private industry.”

Caroline enjoys working with her team of talented and committed colleagues who collaborate across NSW government, with veterans, the Australian Defence Force and the NSW community to deliver the best outcomes.

In her spare time, Caroline is passionate about her local community, history, heritage and the environment. She is involved in local community work in heritage and bush regeneration.
