Mel Keenan is the Director Legal and Governance at the NSW Electoral Commission. Mel comes to the Commission after years of working in legal, policy and regulatory roles across the NSW Public Sector including at the NSW Law Reform Commission, the NSW Aboriginal Land Council and the Parliament of NSW.
“I believe that the work that my colleagues and I do plays an important part in maintaining the confidence in the electoral processes in NSW. We also strive to be an agency that is always innovating, so we get to contribute to making things better for the voters of NSW.”
Mel is also an advocate for recruiting more law graduates into the NSW Public Service, so they can use their skills for the greater good of the community.
“My particular interest is in making the NSW public service an employer of choice for law graduates, which is one of the reasons I’m a member of the Government Solicitors Committee of the NSW Law Society.”
When he is not at work, Mel can be found writing his PhD in law. In his spare time, he enjoys eating out in Sydney, travelling around Australia and visiting family interstate.
