"Our society is diverse thus our public service needs to also be diverse."

Kylie Hargreaves is the Deputy Secretary in the Division of Resources and Geoscience at the NSW Department of Planning and Environment. Kylie’s career has seen her progress through the Commonwealth and NSW public service.

With an international upbringing and a global outlook, Kylie is an advocate for diversity within the sector.

“Our society is diverse thus our public service needs to also be diverse. Otherwise we not only fail to represent the people we work for, but we will miss the benefit of all those different perspectives and experiences and insights when we try to design new laws or programs.”

Kylie enjoys the fact that her role allows her to apply her creativity, connectivity, critical reasoning and public accountability.

“I’ve loved every step of the journey, because there can be no greater opportunity to positively impact the economic, social, cultural and environmental achievements of our society than to work in the public service.”

As a self-described introvert, Kylie enjoys long coastal walks, theatre, swimming, and dining out with friends and family. Having lived overseas for many years, she is clearly enjoying all that Sydney has to offer in terms of the outdoors, culture and dining.
