“Next generations take on their responsibility.”

In his role as NSW Justice Manager of Security, Rod trains new correctional officers for Corrective Services NSW, ensuring trainees have the skillset and attitude to effectively work with inmates on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s fulfilling to pass on my knowledge to new trainees, so they have the right tools and skills to do their job safely,” Rod says.

“In delivering effective training and skilled staff to NSW, we can better meet our responsibility of maintaining the security of inmates.”

Rod has many years of experience working with inmates, so he understands the value in having the right skills and mindset to do the job well.

“Effective training ensures that our trainees have the correct attitudes and values when they take on their new role,” he says.

Rod acknowledges his job isn’t always easy, but the fact that it serves an important purpose keeps him motivated.

“Working in correctional centres is challenging, but it’s important in keeping the peace,” he says.

Rod spends his spare time working on home improvements and renovations.
