Simon Watts is the Director Disability Inclusion and Volunteering at the Department of Family and Community Services.

Simon’s role involves leading teams who support people to participate in their communities, building their own well-being and leading lives where the benefits of employment and participation are fully available particularly for our 2 million volunteers and 1.4 million people with disabilities. Simon works with communities, businesses, councils and local volunteer organisations, and has been inspired by the passionate people in these sectors.

“This year we’ve supported 128 councils to plan new ways to include people with disabilities. What’s not to love about that as a dream job!”

Simon’s motivation lies in his ability to make a difference to people’s lives.

To name just one example, he says seeing an older woman get her first paid job after having volunteered as a hugely rewarding part of his role.

In his spare time, Simon enjoys live classical music. He has 550 books on his Kindle that he is adding to. He is also responsible for raising Jolene, his two-year-old Kelpie cross Whippet.
