An opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant, with a commitment to evidenced based best practice, to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering behaviour assessment, management and clinical liaison services to older people with Dementia and BPSD, their carers, families, service providers and other stakeholders in a person centred manner.

What you'll be doing

The Behaviour Assessment Management Service (BAMS) Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is responsible for the provision of behavioural intervention services to people with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia and / or Mental Illness (BPSD &/ or BPS-MI) and special needs in regard to behavioural assessment and management, education and research.


Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and a minimum of 5 years post registration experience in a mental health and/or aged care speciality. In addition the applicant must have a post graduate qualification within the specialty of mental health drug and alcohol.
  3. Demonstrated experience working with people who have diagnosis of moderate to very severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia and / or mental illness (BPSD &/or BPS-MI) and demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Interventions and Behavioural Care Plans for individuals with BPSD &/or BPS-MI.
  4. Extensive experience in conducting comprehensive behavioural, mental health, physical health assessments and developing, implementing and evaluating Behaviour Intervention Plans and Nursing Care Plans based on positive programming principles and evidence based practice.
  5. Demonstrated experience with research activities and developing and implementing education programs.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and people from Government and Non-government agencies.
  7. NSW Driver’s licence.
