What you'll be doing

Plan, coordinate, and implement in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge within Exercise Physiology, as an integral part of the multidisciplinary health care team in order to provide a high quality service to the mental health patients of Lismore Mental Health Inpatient Units consistent with NSW Health and Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

Exercise Physiology care is provided utilising the principles of Trauma Informed Care and Recovery which are aligned to relevant State and National  Standards.

  • Tertiary qualifications in an exercise science related field with eligibility for accreditation as an exercise physiologist with ESSA and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional education and development.
  • Post graduate experience as an exercise physiologist managing the physical activity needs and behaviours of people with mental health related issues, to contribute to improved health outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical Exercise Physiology services within the scope of practice of the position
  • Sound clinical reasoning and decision making; strong organisational and time management skills and demonstrated ability to work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective communication through the use of information technology, written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to identify key messages, challenges and concerns when communicating with others.
  • Knowledge and understanding of person-centred care, evidenced based practice and quality improvement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Trauma Informed Care and Recovery principles when developing and implementing exercise physiology care plans to people with mental health issues.
  • Valid unrestricted drivers licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment
