Position Information

Bourke High School serves a small isolated community in the far north west of NSW and has an enrolment of approximately 156 students, including 70% Aboriginal students. The school is a Connected Communities comprehensive high school providing a quality education in a caring and supportive environment. The school features a strong vocational education and training focus in Years 9 -12. The school has an Outback Trade Training Centre which includes a metalwork facility and a hospitality facility.
Bourke High School offers an inclusive academic curriculum while fostering sporting, social and cultural opportunities to meet the needs and interests of students. The school has a positive welfare focus with programs in place to address the students' social, as well as educational needs. Bourke High School has a sound commitment to literacy and numeracy development and has well resourced programs to support student learning.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 
Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, autism, challenging behaviours and students with confirmation of disabilities. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and implement individual education programs within the special education faculty and across the school and wider community to improve current and future learning and wellbeing outcomes for students with special needs. Commitment to build staff capacity across the school and develop effective processes and practices to enhance learning outcomes for all students with support needs. Demonstrated consultative leadership and the capacity to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school priorities and initiatives. Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work as part of a team to build positive relationships and effectively communicate with students, staff, parents/caregivers, the community and outside agencies.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
