Nephrologist and Transplant Physician 
John Hunter Hospital 
Permanent 0.8 FTE, 32 hours per week

Applications are invited from suitably qualified consultants for the position of Nephrologist and Transplant Physician with John Hunter Hospital. 

It is a wonderful, unique opportunity to work for the largest local health district in NSW at a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital - servicing a population of 900,000+ across the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid North Coast areas. John Hunter Hospital is the largest hospital in Hunter New England Local Health District with approximately 650 beds and growing and we have strong, innovative connections with Hunter Medical Research Institute and University of Newcastle.

The role will provide specialist inpatient and outpatient care in the areas of transplant nephrology, general nephrology and dialysis at John Hunter Hospital and associated healthcare facilities. John Hunter Hospital has one of the largest end-stage kidney disease programmes in NSW and the only NSW transplant unit north of Sydney, performing 40-50 kidney transplants per year. The successful candidate will play a significant role in the ongoing clinical, academic and managerial development of transplant and nephrology services at John Hunter Hospital. 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have a primary medical degree registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Nephrology) or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award or the Health Insurance Act 1973
  • Be committed to a long term career in Transplantation Medicine
  • Be able to provide high quality, evidence based, patient focused medical services to patient families and carers
  • Will be able to openly communicate, lead and liaise within a multidisciplinary team
