Expressions of interest are invited from high achieving law students who have completed at least the second year of legal studies or from recent graduates who are seeking practical experience in a legal office. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply. We will create a talent pool from this recruitment under Part 5, clause 26 of the Government Sector Employment Rules 2014. 

The CSO offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for the largest provider of legal services to the NSW Government and its agencies. About the Role:

As a paralegal at the CSO, you will be responsible for providing legal and administrative support to a practice group’s solicitors and other team members to contribute to and support the efficient and effective delivery of legal services.


Essential Requirements: 

  • Completion of the second year of a Law Degree.

Targeted Questions:

1. To support the team in the provision of legal advice and/or representation, you will be required to conduct legal research. Please describe the legal software/technology and tools that you would use to assist you in locating particular legislation, relevant case law and extrinsic material. If you were asked to present your findings to a senior solicitor, how would you go about presenting it?


2. Please outline how your superior academic achievement in the area of law and your legal knowledge would enable you to provide high quality legal and administrative support to solicitors.

Candidates must undergo a Suitability Assessment in accordance with the GSE Rules, r.18 and satisfy the pre-established standards for the role in order to be engaged. The selection process will include at least two capability-based assessments, one of which is an interview, to assist in determining suitability for employment for up to 12 months. Employment contracts are reviewed every 4 months and employment is subject to the availability of work and funds and satisfactory performance of duties. Employment beyond 12 months will require further assessment of successful candidates.
