This is an exciting time to join our Policy Science & Research team within the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer. We are conducting a combined recruitment process for policy and project managers with a passion for science, research and innovation.


Our Opportunities

Manager, Projects

In the role of Manager, Projects you will be instrumental in the development of key science and engineering projects, including their planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. You will also lead the provision of expert, science-based and strategic advice and support to the Office on government-commissioned reviews, committee work, projects and other policy initiatives.


A key aspect of this role is to liaise with stakeholders from across Government agencies, universities and stakeholders to coordinate joint activities and to identify opportunities which will enhance science, engineering and research in NSW.

Manager, Policy

In the role of Manager, Policy you will provide informed advice to senior management and the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer on science and research policy initiatives. You will also compose editorial material based on research undertaken for policy and grant rounds, and prepare confidential briefings and papers on a broad range of projects, programs, activities and commitments.


A key aspect of this role is to lead the implementation of the Research Attraction and Acceleration Program (RAAP). This funding program will work closely with the private and university sectors to advance research programs and infrastructure projects that are important to the state’s future. By encouraging targeted investment and stronger partnerships, the RAAP will boost NSW's role in key national research development and infrastructure developments and will create jobs in the state.

About You

To be successful in our roles you will be a highly motivated policy or project leader with a sound understanding or the ability to quickly gain a working knowledge of government and policy processes. You will be an excellent communicator with strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.


It is essential that you are effective at managing your own workload to balance competing demands and priorities and demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement skills as you will liaise with Government agencies, universities, business councils and bilateral chambers. Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, policy, project or equivalent industry experience will be highly regarded.

The Office of the Chief Scientist & Engineer is an independent Office within the NSW Department of Industry designed to foster public and private sector research, innovation, scientific and engineering excellence in NSW. The Office also provides independent advice to the NSW Government and supports the Chief Scientist & Engineer when conducting formal independent reviews on high profile, complex topics commissioned by the Premier or Ministers.
