About the Virtual Clinical Care Centre (VCCC)

The NSW Ambulance Virtual Clinical Care Centre (VCCC) provides a comprehensive secondary triage and referral service that aims to connect triple zero (000) patients with the most appropriate healthcare provider to meet their needs. We aim to improve the patient journey through the health system and support NSW Ambulance Control Centres with the management of emergency resources, ensuring the availability of ambulances for the patients who need them most. This will in turn reduce demand on emergency departments and the general healthcare system.

Incidents received through 000 and identified as low acuity through primary triage are transferred to the VCCC. The incident will undergo secondary triage by a VCCC Triage Clinician who assesses the patient’s clinical presentation and connects the patient with the most appropriate care pathway. This may include direct referral to NSW Health and Primary Care health services, avoiding ambulance transport to the emergency department. Our solutions include telehealth, remote monitoring, and video conferencing.

ABOUT THE ROLE

NSW Ambulance are seeking experienced Registered Nurse Triage Clinicians to join this newly established team. You will perform secondary triage after the initial 000 call has been completed, and where appropriate refer patients to established healthcare pathways, escalate care and/or notify return of the incident to the appropriate Control Centre for dispatch of NSW Ambulance resources.

The NSW Ambulance VCCC is currently based at the old Gladesville Hospital site, and is planned to transition to the state of the art NSWA State Operations Centre at Sydney Olympic Park when the build is completed in early 2024. We operate on site 24 hours, 7 days per week. Please refer to the Position Description and Position Conditions and General Info for further information.

OUR WORKFORCE

The NSW Ambulance VCCC is building a clinically current multidisciplinary workforce to deliver safe, effective and efficient virtual care to patients across NSW.

We are committed to the development of our clinical workforce and have a strong clinical governance and supervision model in place. VCCC Triage Clinicians are currently experienced Paramedic Specialists with either Extended Care and/or Intensive Care qualifications who are also trained in secondary triage and referral.

These Clinicians are supported by a clinical leadership model with Senior Clinicians (Clinical Nurse Consultants and Paramedic Specialists) on site 24/7, and an additional layer of support provided by On-Call Medical Consultants. The long term plan will also see an onsite medical presence.

We are excited to take the next step and integrate Registered Nurse Triage Clinicians into our workforce. We will be offering fractional appointments to enable you to maintain your face to face clinical practice. You will be required to work a proportion of day, afternoon and night shifts in the VCCC to support 24/7 operations.
