We are home to five large Aboriginal nations – the Gundungurra, Ngambri, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin people. Southern NSWLHD comprises of four Networks - Tablelands is centred around Goulburn, Monaro centred around Queanbeyan and Cooma, the Coastal Network located in the far south-east corner of NSW, and the Integrated Care Network.


Where you'll be working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified General Practitioner - Anaesthetist to join the medical team at Cooma District Hospital in the Monaro Shire Council.

Cooma Hospital and Health Service is part of the Monaro Network. It is a 41 bed acute hospital and offers emergency medicine; surgery (orthopaedics, gynaecology, gastroenterology, general surgery and obstetrics); inpatient services; maternity, (24 hours) beds; renal dialysis; outpatient oncology; pathology collection; pharmacy; and medical imaging (x-ray, CT and ultrasound).

 

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Director of Medical Services, you will play an important role in providing General Practitioner - Anaesthetic Services to patients presenting to the facility.

You will use your expert clinical and management skills to provide the highest levels of care to the patients who access your service. You will balance your clinical responsibilities with developing the service and will take a leading role in clinical governance, service design projects, delivery of a top-class education framework for other medical officers.

This role will be undertaken within an approved scope of practice and within the SNSWLHD in conjunction with other existing local Specialists.

Specialists, Fellows and soon to be Fellows are also encouraged to apply. This role would be undertaken within an approved scope of practice and within the SNSWLHD in conjunction with other existing local Anaesthetists.

Selection Criteria

  1. Eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Evidence of accreditation with the Joint Consultative Committee Anaesthesia (Australia), together with a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, or Fellowship of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, or specialist qualifications deemed equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in GP Anaesthesia.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff; and effective communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement.
  7. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.

OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

You will be employed by Southern NSW Local Health District.  The position is primarily located at South East Regional Hospital. Secondary appointments within other facilities may occur by mutual agreement.
