Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, a total of 44 537sq kms.  It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. 

We are home to four large Aboriginal nations – the Gundungurra, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin. 

Southern NSWLHD comprises of four Networks - Tablelands centred around Goulburn, Monaro centred around Queanbeyan and Cooma, the Coastal Network located in the far south-east corner of NSW, and the Integrated Care Network.


Where you'll be working

The Goulburn Base Hospital has recently been re-born by moving into its state of the art Clinical Services Building in December 2021.  Goulburn now boasts a new state of the art Level 4 Emergency Department, a Level 4 ICU and new Operating Theatres.

Our ED sees approximately 20,000 presentations per year of which 10 - 15% of cases are Paediatrics. There is a 25% admission rate. The ED workforce is staffed with Senior, Permanent and Casual CMOs. The ICU is staffed with Senior, Permanent and Casual CMO's.

Goulburn ED has 2 resuscitation beds, 6 acute beds (including 2 isolation rooms), a fast track area and 4 bedded SSU. Our ED is accredited for ACEM Emergency Medicine or Diploma training (EMC/EMD).

There are new Paediatric, General Medical and Surgical Wards with purpose built negative flow areas and a Rehabilitation Ward. Services provided include 24/7 Emergency Care, General Medicine, General and Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatrics, Maternity and Rehabilitation Medicine.

Our new Director has provided great skill and leadership, it is a very exciting time to join our ED team and be integral in developing the Emergency Services at Goulburn Base Hospital.  Your expertise will be greatly appreciated and will have lasting impact on the future of Emergency Medficine for SNSWLHD and beyond.

 

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Director of Medical Services, you will play an important role in providing specialist Emergency Medical services, be involved in the educational activities of the Department to develop a top-class education framework for other medical officers.

Goulburn Base Hospital receives rotating Basic Physician Trainees (BPTs) from the Canberra Hospital, rotating general surgical registrars from Sydney and is accredited to receive registrars from RACP, RACGP, ACEM and ACRRM.

This role will be undertaken within an approved scope of practice and within the SNSWLHD in conjunction with other existing local Specialists.

Selection Criteria

  1. Evidence of registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Emergency Medicine and Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  6. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Emergency Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  8. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2022_030.  All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

You will be employed by Southern NSW Local Health District.  The position is primarily located at Goulburn Base Hospital. Secondary appointments within other facilities may occur by mutual agreement.
