We are home to five large Aboriginal nations – the Gundungurra, Ngambri, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin people. Southern NSWLHD comprises of four Networks - Tablelands is centred around Goulburn, Monaro centred around Queanbeyan and Cooma, the Coastal Network located in the far south-east corner of NSW, and the Integrated Care Network.


Where you'll be working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Anaesthetists to join the medical team at South East Regional Hospital in the Bega Valley, part of the Coastal Network.

South East Regional Hospital opened it’s doors in 2016 and boasts beautiful country side views which are aesthetically pleasing for any work environment. South East Regional Hospital offers an emergency department, medical and surgical inpatient beds, a level 3 maternity service, level 3 paediatric unit, a critical care unit with 24-hour registrar cover, 3 operating theatres including day surgery, with significant community-based services including renal dialysis services and outpatient cancer medicine services. South East Regional Hospital also offers an inpatient mental health unit and sub-acute rehabilitation unit. In September 2022 a state-of-the-art standalone medical simulation centre will open.


What you will be doing

Reporting to the Director of Medical Services, you will play an important role in providing specialist Anaesthetic Medical services, be involved in the educational activities of the Department to develop a top-class education framework for medical students, junior doctors

South East Regional Hospital receives rotating Basic Physician Trainees (BPTs) from the Canberra Hospital, rotating general surgical registrars from Sydney and is accredited to receive registrars from RACP, RACS, AOA, RANZCOG, RACGP, ACEM and ACRRM.

This role will be undertaken within an approved scope of practice and within the SNSWLHD in conjunction with other existing local Specialists.

South East Regional Hospital is in Bega - 429 kilometres south of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW Snow fields and 20 minutes from the coast. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with a short 55-minute flight to Sydney and daily flights to Melbourne.

 Selection Criteria

  1. Holds registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Anaesthetics, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Demonstrated effective clinical communication using information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  3. Demonstrated significant experience relevant to Anaesthesia practice and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and Southern NSW LHD values, goals and strategies.

OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.

All NSW Health workers are required to have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 30 September 2021 and two doses by 30 November 2021 or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status as part of the recruitment and onboarding process. You will be employed by Southern NSW Local Health District.  The position is primarily located at South East Regional Hospital. Secondary appointments within other facilities may occur by mutual agreement.
