Work at the Local Council Elections 4 December 2021

 The NSW Electoral Commission is encouraging applications for a range of roles to help deliver the NSW Local election on Saturday, 4 December 2021.

You must be an enrolled elector to be offered employment as an Election Official, Office Assistant or Senor Office Assistant.

A total of 30,000 paid roles are being recruited, either for election day or for up to eight weeks for some administrative jobs.

You don’t need experience to apply and all necessary training is provided.

Desirable attributes include being a team player and a good communicator.  If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, you will enjoy working at the local council election.

There are vacancies state-wide for all types of roles.

Election officials are employed at polling places on Election Day and may be required to carry out the following tasks:

  • assist with the setup of the polling places
  • issue ballot papers
  • assist electors
  • sort and count ballot papers
  • pack up the voting centre.

 Election Officials work from 7.15am on Saturday, 4 December 2021 until all tasks are completed on election night.  Election Officials are required to complete online training before election day.

Senior office assistant and office assistant positions require flexibility - employment is available from October to December 2021.

Office assistant duties include:

  • customer service and telephone enquiries
  • data entry
  • assisting with early voting activities before election day
  • packing/checking election materials
  • counting and sorting ballot papers
  • assisting with receipt and input of results

Senior Office Assistant duties:

  • Managing the recruitment of staff for polling places
  • Managing the receipt of election materials and setting up and decommissioning offices
  • Managing a pre-poll voting office.
  • Managing counting of ballot papers
