Veterans Employment Program
The Veterans Employment Program (VEP) was established in 2016 and is overseen by the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs. The VEP supports former Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel into NSW Public Sector careers by:
- Developing research-led tools to help veterans determine what NSW Public Sector roles suit their skills and experience, and enable them to self-assess their skills against the NSW Public Sector Capability Framework
- Engaging directly with veterans across the state to promote career pathways, employment opportunities and further education with TAFE NSW
- Providing an engaged network of advocates and mentors to support veterans as they make their career transition
- Facilitating extensive inter-agency collaboration to assist hiring managers in understanding the unique skills and experiences that veterans can offer the civilian workforce
The VEP was initially launched to support 200 veterans in finding suitable, sustainable and meaningful employment within the NSW Public Sector by 2019. By November 2018, 831 veterans had found employment or been offered a new role. Following its unprecedented success, the Program has been extended with a new target to support an additional 1000 veterans into employment by 2023.
