Our commitment to candidates

We want you to have a good experience when you apply for a job in the NSW Public Service and go through a recruitment and selection process.

We aim to keep you informed and supported from the beginning to the end of the recruitment process. We will do this by:

  • having the name of the contact person for all jobs in the job ad. You can ask questions about the job, its benefits (e.g. flexible working options) and working in the agency
  • having a contact person during the assessment and selection stages. You can ask questions about assessments and the selection process
  • letting you know if you will progress through each stage of the process
  • telling you about the assessments you need to complete ahead of time. This allows you to prepare and to tell us in advance if you need any adjustments
  • notifying you if you are successful or unsuccessful in your application. Notifications usually happen at each stage of the process by email or phone.

When we receive large numbers of applications, the process can take some time to complete.

Giving you feedback

We will make every effort to give you feedback if your application is unsuccessful. Here are some general principles:

  • We generally offer verbal feedback to all candidates who get to the end of the process.
  • You can ask the hiring agency for feedback even if you did not progress to the final stages.
  • The hiring agency is best placed to give feedback. They have information about your application and assessment outcomes.

Though you may feel awkward about asking for feedback, we want you to have the best possible care. This includes giving actionable feedback to help you:

  • with your career journey
  • learn from your experiences
  • improve or take a different approach next time.
