Meet Kritika

Kritika is a former digital graduate from the 2018 cohort and currently works as as Advisor, Enterprise Architect at the NSW Department of Customer Service. We interviewed Kritika when she commenced the Graduate Program.

What did you study and where?

I have completed two diverse postgraduate degrees - Master of IT Management and Master of Management from the University of Sydney.

What made you want to apply for the NSW Government Graduate Program?

Starting my career with the NSW Government has been a fabulous learning experience. I chose a career in NSW Government because it enabled me to start my journey with Australia’s largest and most diverse employer and work on exciting initiatives which add value, create impact and deliver positive outcomes for the citizens of NSW.

The NSW Government Graduate Program provided me with the perfect opportunity to work and learn from the smartest minds around. We are living in a digital era, where digital innovation is transforming the way we work, live and learn. Three diverse and exciting rotations, having an executive sponsor and mentor enabled me to strengthen these skills by working on exciting projects and initiatives related to IT strategy, digital transformation, innovation and enterprise architecture.

What were three key things you learned in the Graduate Program?

Three things that I learned while in the Graduate Program are:

  • Always be curious and have a growth mindset to learn different skills, evolve and grow holistically in both personal and professional lives. It is about having a ‘learn it all mindset’ and continuously choosing to invest in ourselves.
  • Tap into the power of unity and collaboration as it creates magic and drives more inclusive outcomes for everyone.
  • Be kind and keep empowering people around you. Celebrate others, look out for each other and help where needed. All of us are changemakers, and small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect.

Can you tell us about the work you have been involved in?

I currently work as an Advisor, Enterprise Architect at digital.nsw at the NSW Department of Customer Service. My areas of responsibilities include working on whole of government initiatives across ICT and digital strategy, enterprise architecture and digital transformation to support key business strategic objectives of digital.nsw and to meet the digital needs of the citizens of NSW.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work on many different whole of government initiatives such as NSW Customer and Digital Strategy – Beyond Digital, NSW Digital Restart Fund, NSW DRF Pipeline Prioritisation Tool, and NSW Strategy, Investment and Architecture Centre of Excellence.

Outside of these initiatives, I am a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in the workforce, and I am always excited to drive positive impact to uplift women community in DCS and broader NSW Public Sector. I currently Chair the DCS Women in Technology Network, and Co-Chair DCS Leading Women Employee Resource Group. These two wonderful networks provide me the perfect platform to keep empowering women at all stages of their careers via education, empowerment, and strategic policy initiatives.

I am passionate about using technology to drive meaningful change in the community, and I am an Advisory Board Member for the NSW ICT Professionals Community of Practice.

What advice would you give a student thinking about applying for the Graduate Program?

Always be curious and understand your ‘why’ – i.e. what motivates and inspires you personally and professionally. If you are passionate about using your skills to deliver value, positive outcomes and drive meaningful change, then the NSW Government Graduate Program is a great fit for you.
